Hijab fabrics explained: jersey, chiffon, modal, silk and when to wear each
The five hijab fabrics you'll actually wear, what they cost, how they behave, and which one to reach for on which day.
The right hijab fabric depends less on price and more on what you're doing that day.
The five you'll actually wear
Jersey — grippy, opaque, no pins needed. Best for school runs and long days.
Chiffon — light, slightly sheer, needs an underscarf. The default for events and photos.
Cotton / modal — breathable, matte, holds shape. Great for warm weather and travel.
Silk (or silk-like satin) — luxurious drape, slippery. Save for occasions and weddings.
Instant / slip-on — pre-sewn shape, one-piece. Best for sport and school-age children.
What to look for
Aim for a length of 175–195cm for square styles and 70x180cm for rectangles. Anything shorter fights you all day.
